近日，云南省文物考古研究所、中国科学院古脊椎动物与古人类研究所、澳大利亚伍伦贡大学等国内外多家科研单位合作，通过对甘棠箐遗址发掘出土的遗存进行分析研究，发现35件保存完好的年代约为距今30万年的木器，与木器伴生的文化遗存包括大量石制品、骨角器、动物化石和植物遗存。研究发现，该遗址出土的木器和鹿角“软锤”是目前东亚地区最早者，在世界范围内的旧石器时代遗址中也实属罕见。该考古发现和研究成果刷新了学界对于旧石器时代人类生存能力与方式和东亚旧石器时代文化特点及其成因的认识，于今天(7月4日)在国际学术期刊《科学》在线发表。
△甘棠箐遗址出土的部分木器甘棠箐遗址位于云南江川，发现于1984年，1989年被首次发掘，2014—2015年和2018—2019年该遗址被再次发掘，出土丰富的石制品、动物化石、木质材料、植物种子。本次发表的材料全部来自新近两次的考古发掘。
